Tesla Model Y – Failure to Foam?
“Ok boys and girls. What do you think you just saw there? This is not what we expected to see from Tesla,” remarks Sandy Munro as he tears apart the back end of the Tesla Model Y and finds a bag of foam attached to the structure, placed as a clumsy afterthought in order to get rid of NVH issues with the car. “I’ve never seen that before, but I can tell you it is completely ineffective,” Sandy goes on to say.
While most everything the Munro team has uncovered in the Tesla Model Y has been exciting, impressive, and in some cases revolutionary, this was one of the biggest fails that Sandy discovered during the intensive teardown.
Even though Sandy’s take away was that the foam bag, “is a remarkably bad find,” he does have a nifty time tested solution.
