Episode 15: Tailor Welded Blanks, Body Side Inner, Welding Comparison MY-M3, Parts Raffle!

Welcome to episode 15 of Munro’s Tesla Model Y Performance teardown, where Munro & Associates CEO Sandy Munro walks us through what a tailor welded blank is, why it’s useful, where it’s used on the Model Y and where it wasn’t used on the Model 3. After the welding comparison, Sandy shares that he views the Model Y as a “pretty good build,” which is high praise considering the number of teardowns he has analyzed.

In this segment, Sandy also analyzes the construction of the body side inner (BSI) ring, as well as offers a comparison between the door flange welds on the Model 3 vs. the Model Y. You can see the full details of Sandy’s comment here.

Lastly, Sandy announces that Munro is starting a product raffle with selected parts from the Model Y teardown! Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of the teardown experience! Any of these parts would be a great addition to any enthusiast’s garage, and the proceeds from the sale will help keep Munro moving forward with the Model Y teardown.

By purchasing a ticket, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win one of three Tesla Model Y teardown parts – a Suspension Link Shield (shown in the picture, signed in Episode 15), a Fender-Mounted Camera/Side Marker (Episode 7), and the “Lone Screw” from the Trunk tub (shown in the picture, Episode 15). Raffle tickets will continue to be sold up through April 29th at midnight EST, after which a live-streamed drawing will be held on our YouTube channel on Thursday, April 30th at noon to select and announce the winners.
