It’s glass day at Munro! In episode 25 of Munro’s Tesla Model Y Performance teardown Munro & Associates CEO Sandy Munro walks us through the unique geometry on the windshield, potential accommodations for RHD and the differences between tempered and laminated glass. He also takes a look at the door glass. Let’s dive in!

Looking at the front glass of the Tesla Model Y, Sandy points out its interesting geometry and comments that this isn’t unique to this vehicle. It’s there for a number of reasons, including reducing noise, windshield wiper protection and design.

Looking down lower, he points out the area where the brake booster goes and shows how it’s able to be repositioned to enable both right- and left-hand driving with minimal changes.

Sandy then points out that the roof glass – which is tempered and laminated – is two pieces held together with plastic, making it ultra-strong with good protection for occupants because it will help keep them inside in a rollover accident. The corner glass and door glass are both tempered, but not laminated like the roof glass.

To demonstrate the difference, Sandy smashes the passenger side window! Be sure to check it out – along with the full assessment – here.
